Each year on Halloween, the PTO provides a story-teller in the morning for the children's enjoyment. At lunch, families have the option to take their children home and dress them for the afternoon activities. Student who stay at school will receive help from staff putting on their costumes. After lunch, we have a whole school parade around the Franklin side playground where parent are welcome to come and watch. Also in the afternoon, classroom parties are planned around curriculum blocks and specials.
Holiday
First Grade has a very special Holiday party that corresponds with their study of the Holidays Around the World. Special games, and crafts are provided by Room Parents and parent volunteers.. Parties are usually held the week before the holiday break.
Valentine's Day
Every Valentine's Day first grade has a party to celebrate Valentine's Day. There is an exchange of cards between the students, crafts, and games organized by the Room Parents and parent volunteers.
Author's Celebration
Author's Celebration is a special hour where parents attend to celebrate their child's writing over their first grade year. The students will share their narrative, informational, opinion, and realistic fiction pieces. Author's Tea is held in late May.
Party Allergy Information
There are students in first grade who suffer from severe food allergies. Even exposure to a tiny amount of this item could be potentially very serious and life threatening. We can all play a role in preventing such a dangerous and frightening situation at school. Your assistance is needed for a safe classroom environment. Only foods prepared by a licensed, commercial establishment or kitchen may be served at school.

First Grade Events
Field Trips
The first grade team has two field trips a year. The first field trip is to a play based on one of our favorite authors. The second field trip is in the spring to Morton Arboretum. Also, the first grade has walking field trips to the Trailside Museum and the River Forest Public Library.
